Abstract
Openness was one of György Konrád’s great qualities: openness towards the unexpected, and towards possible ways of being and developing where no-one else could see them, towards personal freedom – both his own and that of those with whom he spoke – and towards the way that the stories he told unfolded. As Konrád wrote: “All that is human is a luxury” – and this was a luxury that he allowed himself to enjoy.
