Suspiciousness in Action
Counter-Revolution in Poland

Deutsche Fassung

Abstract

Lech Kaczyński and the party Law and Justice have set in motion a counterrevolution. After a long period of enlightened thinking, the era of reactionaries has come. Their ideas have nothing in common with conservatism; they are radical and utopian. Polish reactionaries look backwards and seek support in community, mystic notions of nationhood, and an anachronistic understanding of the state. The price of this development is high: Poland is experiencing a dramatic regression in language, thinking, and its wealth of social capital and institutions – and it is marginalising itself in Europe.
