Abstract

In Ukrainian a lustration law entered into force in October 2014. Officials who had held leadership positions in authoritarian regimes are to be removed from the state apparatus. The same applies to persons, who are convicted for corruption. The law is applied to activity during the Soviet period and the tenure of Viktor Yanukovych (2010–2014). Some state institutions openly sabotage the law. Nonetheless, most former officials were dismissed from leading positions. However, purging corrupted elites from the power appa-ratus has failed.
