The Leningrad Blockade in Television

Abstract

Television regularly takes on the Leningrad Blockade. The historical event provides material for broadcast news, documentaries, and fictional mini-series. However, all of these formats use the same easily understandable signals. Thus there comes into being a construction of reality that serves to entertain the public and to romanticise the past. Simulation encroaches on memory’s place; this has nothing to do with serious reflection or assessment of the past.
